He is a Certified Public Accountant and Managing Partner of GW & Associates, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants.
In 2011, he was elected Mayor of the City of Chicago Heights. As Mayor, his priority is serving the residents and businesses in Chicago Heights. His vision encompasses revitalizing the city’s economic development to encourage new business and employment; providing efficient city services for residents and businesses, and upgrading the city’s infrastructure to support the city’s growth and economic stability.
The city has a current resident population of approximately 27,000 residents. Chicago Heights is a community that embodies a rich cultural diversity, along with neighborhoods that display a variety of architectural styles and historic housing. The city has a long history as an industrial hub, and the completion of the city’s comprehensive plan during Mayor Gonzalez’s administration continues to provide a blueprint for the expansion of new business and light industry.
The Mayor works closely with all city departments to identify innovative programs to deliver services. His focus on neighborhood improvements resulted in a comprehensive annual street resurfacing program, construction and improvements to the city’s water and sewer mains, and a recently completed inventory of the city’s parkway trees that will provide an ongoing maintenance plan to improve and preserve the city’s tree canopy.
Mayor Gonzalez has been a leader in providing the necessary resources for the Fire and Police Departments to ensure funding for equipment, apparatus and technology are allocated to assist our law enforcement and first responders in doing their work.
Mayor Gonzalez served as a member of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. He also served as the Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer for the Chicago Heights Park District. He is a member of the Government Finance Officer Association, Illinois CPA Society, and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
