David A. Gonzalez was born and raised in the City of Chicago Heights. He is a graduate of Roosevelt University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Managing Partner of GW & Associates, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants.
In 2011, he was elected Mayor of the City of Chicago Heights. As Mayor, his priority is serving the residents and businesses in Chicago Heights. His vision encompasses revitalizing the city’s economic development to encourage new business and employment; providing efficient city services for residents and businesses, and upgrading the city’s infrastructure to support the city’s growth and economic stability.
The city has a current resident population of more than 30,000, that embodies a rich cultural diversity and neighborhoods that offer an array of new and historic housing. The city has a long history as an industrial hub, and the completion of the city’s comprehensive plan during Mayor Gonzalez’s administration is leading to the expansion of new business and light industry.
The Mayor continues to work closely with all city departments to identify innovative programs to deliver services. His focus on neighborhood improvements resulted in a comprehensive street resurfacing program, and in 2016, the City will embark on a replanting program for parkway trees throughout the city’s neighborhoods. He worked with the Police Department to implement neighborhood foot and bike patrols, and continues to support the department’s development of community programs that foster a positive relationship between residents and officers.
Mayor Gonzalez was appointed by Governor Quinn to the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority Board in 2011. He serves on the Finance Committee and is Chairman of the Audit Committee for the Toll Authority.
Mayor Gonzalez is a former Police and Fire Commissioner. He formerly served as Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer for the Chicago Heights Park District. He is a member of the Government Finance Officer Association, Illinois CPA Society, and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
