The fun begins with an evening carnival on September 9th, where visitors can enjoy the rides and games that will be available throughout the weekend. The Festival of Sister Cities officially kicks off on Saturday, September 10th, and continues through Sunday, September 11th. A full schedule of the festival events will be released in the coming weeks.Chicago Heights’ four sister cities are a focal point of the festival and they include: Wadowice, Poland; Asuogyaman District, Ghana, West Africa; Cedral, San Luis Potosi, Mexico; and San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy. Visitors will enjoy stopping by the booths for an educational and informative glimpse of the customs and culture of each city, as well as vendors providing an array of ethnic foods representative of the four sister cities and our favorite local cuisine.Launched in September 2012, the Festival of Sister Cities is a Chicago Heights tradition that celebrates the rich diversity and heritage of our residents and the four sister cities.
